Safe Exchange Zone
Recent national incidents have indicated that in-person sales, transactions and exchanges originating from online marketplaces have experienced an increase in violence, fraud and theft by deception. In an effort to promote safer transactions between strangers, the Bedminster Township Police Department along with the Bedminster Township Committee has established a “Safe Exchange Zone” for residents regarding internet sales transactions.
Two parking spaces in
the northeast corner of the Municipal Building are open and available to the public as a “Safe Exchange Zone” for conducting in-person transactions that have been facilitated through online marketplaces. The parking spaces are indicated by signage.
Surveillance of Transactions
The Township of Bedminster and the Bedminster Township Police Department will make no guarantees, assurances, or promises as to the safety or security of any in-person transactions that may take place on township property. The Bedminster Township Police Department will not provide personnel or staff to witness any transaction in-person.
While Bedminster Township will not provide police personnel or staff to witness these transactions in person, the building's video surveillance and proximity to police headquarters is meant to increase the public's peace of mind when they meet strangers to buy or sell an item.
